Athens, GA

On the way back we stopped over in Athens, GA, home of the University of Georgia, R.E.M., and the B-52's. Its a nice little cultural oasis, and the motels are cheap and clean. We had some indian food for dinner, and passed by this landmark on the way out of town.

...headin' down the Atlanta highway

Too funny. Linda makes a great 52. Is that where they filmed the video?

And tell me, did you actually seek out this landmark, which is part of such an important event in popular culture? Or did you just stumble on it?

Either way, I can just see Gina in the back seat, rolling her eyes and protesting, just like we did when we had to stop and examine every historical marker and monument during family vacations.

We were coming into Athens and Linda was navigating and reviewing a map, and she shrieked "The Atlanta Highway"! So the next morning we took the highway out of town and stopped for the picture.

Gina was pretty tolerant. She knows the song, Linda has it as a ringtone on her cell.
